Italians born abroad in the early 1800s

Post by amalate »

Hello -

I'm trying to locate the birth records of a man born in 1842 in Mariupol, Ukraine. His father was a Genovese merchant and was living in the area when his son was born.

A sibling had his 1838 birth registered in the family's Italian hometown in 1875 when he was getting married in the town. That document indicates that his birth was recorded with the vice-consulate of the King of Sardegna in Marianopolis (Mariupol) in 1848 and that he was baptised in a church in Taganrog, Russia (near Mariupol). The church name looks like 'S.S. Oleis Infantem' but I haven't found anything about it - or even know where to search to find any of its registers.

Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Do you know where that man got married?

Thanks for your question -

I believe at least one of his marriages was in Chile in 1892 but the marriage record does not indicate if it was his first or second marriage.

I have some reason to believe that he was married prior to 1892 and he lived in Constantinople (there are two children registered in the Italian town registers indicating their foreign births of 1877 and 1779). I do not find his marriage in the Italian registers for at least 10 years before those registered births (earliest marriage registers for the town are 1861).
