Calabrese ; Sagario; DiSanto from Salerno?

Post by AmyJo717 »

Hi! I’ve hit a wall in my search. I have made it to Maria Sagario (many spellings but this was in her obituary) b. Aug 1885 (Salerno, IT) d. 1929 (Penn, USA) m. Frank Calabrese b.1881 (Italy) d. 1974 (Penn, USA). Maria’s parents were Carmine Sagario and Florence DiSanto. Cannot find any information on them. And cannot even find first names for Franks parents. Frank and Maria had many children, the oldest was Josephine who was born in Italy. My great grandmother was their second to youngest and born in 1918 in Penn, USA, name Lucille Calabrese. Any suggestions how to continue my search would be appreciated! Thank you! Amy

Hello Amy and welcome to the Forum.

Perhaps you should have said that they were not from Salerno but from its province.
Anyway, thanks to your online tree I’ve managed to trace their origins.

Francescantonio Calabrese was born in Auletta on 6 February 1881. #9
His parents were Carlo and Maria Giuseppa Gagliardi.

Maria Sagaria was born in Pertosa on 25 August 1886. #30
Her parents were Carmine and Filomena De Santis.

They were married in Pertosa on 18 April 1904. #2

Also, Frank and Maria had at least another child between Josephine 1905 and Carmen 1911.
Carmine Ciro born 29 November 1906 in Pertosa.#18

We can see from this act that Francescantonio (Frank) was already abroad.

Couldn’t find Josephine’s birth in Auletta (stated on your family tree).
Probably she was also born in Pertosa. Unfortunately the 1905 birth register for Pertosa is not present online.
