Looking for Taddeo and Cudia (last names)
Looking for Taddeo and Cudia (last names)
Hi! Im trying to find more info on my Italian side of the family. My great great grandmother was Paola Taddeo and her husband was Francesco Cudia. Thats as far as I get. I would like to find more about them and their parents and maybe siblings if possible. They were both born in Casteltravano, Sicily.

Hi,
Can you roughly give us any dates?
Did you mean CASTELVETRANO?

Yes Castelvetrano. Thank you! So Paola was born 5-7-1892. Francesco was born 4-1-1890. I think I found her father but not her mother and nothing on Francesco. Also she emigrated to the U.S. on 7-7-1907. I believe her father is Giovanni Taddeo born 9-10-1866.

Thank you.
There is no Francesco Cudia born on 4-1-1890 in Castelvetrano but there is one born on March 27, son of Vincenzo and Chiara Palminteri. #250

A Paola Taddeo, daughter of Giovanni was born in 1892, as we can see from the ten years index, but unfortunately the birth register for that year is missing. Act #358

I don't see a Giovanni Taddeo born in 1866 in the indici decennali...

In the year 1866, there's a Girolamo (di Francesco) and Antonino (di Giovanni)...

Hi there,
Great research! The dates and locations you have are very specific, which is helpful. Casteltrano is in the province of Agrigento in Sicily, so knowing this region will help narrow down your searches in the parish records.
A few suggestions that might help:
1. The Taddeo surname variations - you might find it spelled as Taddei or Tadei in some documents, especially across generations
2. Since Giovanni Taddeo was born around 1866, look for his baptismal records in Casteltrano church records - these usually contain information about the parents
3. For Paola's emigration in 1907, check ship manifests through Castle Garden or Ellis Island records (if she went to the US)
Have you checked the historical demographic records (stati civili) for the Casteltrano area? The online archive might have digitized records from the 1890s onward.
Best of luck with your research!
