Hi Marcia,

The rectofitter was the occupation of an unknown - unrelated person.. his name was on one top of the census records we made light of last night.

Now that manifest.... that Valarie was last looking at...

1908 Antonia (Antonio) Lise,

The elderly person that Antonio travels with is also a Mosaic fitter named Antonio Ponte...

Antonio Ponte leaves in Italy a nephew named Ferdinando Ponte. He would be going to 13 Minetta St. ? to join his nephew. I know I've seen this street... looks like he may have been in the USA from 1890 to 1908

Antonio Lise from same manifest was in the USA from 1892 to 1908

Don't know if these 2 are related.. but both are Mosaic fitters... live within minutes of each other in the Manhattan district map Marcia posted..

Looks like Antonio Ponste's job is "musical lestru ment" to me? But it seems that they were travelling together. It's interesting to think about the story out of these documents isn't it. :)

Thanks for the re-link Maria.

Gosh the mystery of Josephine's husband....

:: Birth certificate of Louis Lise

I've been in touch with relatives of Louis Lise (B 1920), one of the 4 children of Josephine Toia and "Joseph" Lise and I'm hoping to get an answer regarding place of birth of Louis Lise. Then I'll be requesting his birth certificate from the relevant county which will definitely confirm the name of Josephine's husband.

:: Birth certificate of William Lise

I've requested William A. Lise's birth certificate from the New York council since I figured he was born in New York, NY because Joseph Lise (probably his father) was living in Downing Street, New York, NY in 1917. But he might have been registered in New Rochelle...

It could be that we're confusing two Antonio's. There's one Antonio who was born in 1887:

ANTONIO LISE
Birth: 20 May 1887
Death: Apr 1978
Residence: 11791 (Syosset, Nassau, NY)
SSN: 094-01-7558
The Italian Genealogy forum has helped me find out a lot about my Italian family. I am very thankful for all the time and effort put into this great community : )

You mentioned that there's an Antonio Lise in the directory in 1925 but if Emma Lise was widowed he shouldn't be appearing on the directory.. So I thought maybe this Antonio Lise in the directory isn't our Antonio Lise (married to Emma).

http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipM ... 2324060173&

---

Is it just coincidence that Antonio Lise above is listed next to a "Ponte"?
There's Eurichetta Ponte from Roma, single, 16 yrs old, taylor, who's going to her sister Antonia's place at 13 Menetta Street, New York. There is something written under health but not sure what that is..

Remember Antonio travelled with an elderly called Antonio Ponte in 1908 ? http://ellisisland.org/search/shipManif ... 0271%2ETIF

Yes!! Wow, that is a great find!! I'm so happy you found that manifest.

I was looking through some records today... and found a Lise who's job was **SPAM** bottles for liquor!

Can't let go of this thread!! I think your Lise's are very much researchable...

When I have both eyes open I will review your manifest further... I did see Emma Lise's name there!! and thought woooohoooo!!

As for the directory, even though Emma's husband was dead, they kept his name in there... not unusual... I can send you the directories I collected for Emma... they may be too big to post...

It's after 3:00am...

Hi Marcia,

I am trying to link Emma's directory listing but am having trouble linking it .. not as big as a file as I thought...

I'll try to link it later ... and if that doesn't work... I can email it to you...

I like this Emma and Antonio couple... will continue to figure them out... will spend some time on the manifest you recently located... aren't they priceless though??

Documents of Interest.... Scouting around.... no known connection to your ancestors...

These people have not been researched at all... but I certainly wouldn't mind your opinions or thoughts on these ... whenever...

Liszy and Lise

In my spare time I still look for documents and I did come across 2 finds... a Lise (sp?) from a different place.... I was most intrigued by the spelling of the surname... also that the Liszy party would be joining a Joseph Liszy in New York...

But then... look at the person on line 6....
