Massimiliano -

I do have a direct di Tota line. My 4GGM was Teresa di Tota (c.1757†1802), wife of 4GGF Giuseppe Pasqualone (c.1749†1786), daughter of 5GGF Pasquo di Tota (c.1723†1781) and 5GGM Ippolita Cristina (c.1727†1766), and granddaughter of 6GGF Angelo di Tota and 6GGM Teresangela del Rosso.

I also have many di Lallo and di Tota individuals in my database. (The only di Giorgio entries are from Torella and Castropignano, although those families moved to Campobasso in the 19th century.) Perhaps your family and mine are connected. However, my records only go to 1910. Can you give me some information about your ancestors who were born prior to 1910?

Hi John,

I have to ask a question from you. For the town of Casacalenda, do you have any surnames with DiGirolamo, Miozza, DiLallo, Pietrantonio, Masicotta, Montagano, and Romaguolo in your tree?

I'm doing research right now for a guy whose ancestors are from Casacalenda. Matter of fact, he is in Casacalenda now looking to see the hometown of his ancestors. I was just wondering if there was a connection to your ancestors.

Have a good one.

Hi Trish - My database is weak on Casacalenda. My only two ancestors connected to that town (they died in Casacalenda) are Donato (di Onofrio) Mancini and Petronilla (di Lorenzo) Iacobacci, who were each born circa 1730. As you might imagine, the Stato Civile is of no help that far back and the church records have not been filmed. Their daughter married into the Trotta family of Campobasso and the line of descent continued in Campobasso. I checked the surnames you listed and had no entries from Casacalenda for any of them. Sorry I couldn't help.

Trish......

My ancestors came from Casacalenda.

I have all the birth records on permanent loan.....in fact, if the Miozza connection is the one I am thinking of, I believe I sent him all the info of births back to 1809 for Miozza and DiGirolamo.

I now have all the death records from 1809 to 1885 on loan and am going through all of them. In addition, I have some marriage records.

Do you have any connections to the pre-1809 records? Gosh it would be wonderful to have access to the church records! Would love to get back to about 1700 to see where all the lines intersect......

John,

I know we have interacted before re the relationship between your ancestors and Casacalenda....unable to track much of it. However, the mention of the name Trotta coming from Campobasso. There was a few members of the Trotta family in Casacalenda...my great great grandmother was Rachela Trotta born in 1835, daughter of Giuseppe...

Pretty sure the name does not originate in Casacalenda...do you think this is part of the Campobasso family?

Both of you have a great day!

Essgee - Interesting possibility, especially in light of my Mancini/Trotta connection. As you might know, the Trotta surname is somewhat widely disbursed throughout Italy. In addition to the Campobasso area of Molise, there are Trotta concentrations in Abruzzo Citra, Terra di Lavoro, and Capitanata/Puglia, all of which are relatively close to Casacalenda. Who were Rachela Trotta's parents and do have any information earlier than that? Also, have the processetti records given you any clues about the origins of your Trotta line?

John...

I will check further at the library next week. Thing is, this is the only Trotta line I can find in Casacalenda. The processetti for Casacalenda that I have seen aren't much more then marriage records. The detailed ones are early on...but still don't have every document you find in the processti from other communes. Only looked at a couple...could be more there I haven't found or come across as of yet.

I will look at the death records again...perhaps the early ones will have the town of birth being different.....

Will let you know......

Dear Essgee,

If you double check the early records both marriage and death, you might be able to get your ancestors back pretty far. I was able to get the DiGirolamo family back to 1746 and they are basically all related to one another.

When my client comes back from Italy, he is going to send me pictures of the town so that I can add them to his book. I'll ask him if I can share them with you.

Have a good one.

Hi Cousin Al - That is the same Carmina aka Carmela Fede that I have as the wife of Antonio Libertucci and mother of Luigi Libertucci (b. 7 JUN 1870). I have her listed as Carmina on a birth extract (FHL INTL Film 1443309, PROCESSETTI 1849, No. del Reg. 94, foglio 2), a baptismal record (FHL INTL Film 1443295, NATI/BATTESIMI 1830, N. d'ordine 87/folio 86 - Note: these records are commingled with PROCESSETTI 1830) and marriage record (FHL INTL Film 1443308, MATRIMONI 1849, N. d'ordine 94). However, she is listed as Carmela on her son Luigi's birth record (FHL INTL Film 1733186, NATI 1870, No. 227). I haven't checked her birth record to see which given name is on it.

Luigi Libertucci (b. 07 JUN 1870) is not Audra's GGF. He died as an infant on 30 JUN 1870 (FHL INTL Film 1733316, MORTI 1870, No. 254). Her ancestry puzzles me as I cannot find her family in the Campobasso records. Perhaps it originated in one of the other comuni located in the distretto/provincia of Campobasso.

PS: I hope you made out all right during the last hurricane. It tore the hurricane shutters on my balcony to shreds.

Hello cousin John,

Thanks for the update on Luigi. I wonder if there was another Luigi born in 1871, being that Francescopaolo was born 16 Feb 1872 ?

You are correct on Carmina. I just checked my rough notes and that's the way her birth record #87 reads. I probably recorded the births of her sons before hers and that's where I got Carmela from. BTW, if there are any more children born to Antonio Libertucci and Carmina Fede, Marilyn Verna would like to know. She has strong ties to both surnames.

Funny you should mention storm shutters. I just took a break from taking mine down. I'm getting too old to be wrestling with these sheets of plywood. What kind do you have? I'd like to get the clear plastic. They are easier and lighter to store.

Regards,
Al

Al - Although I only did an index search, there was no sign of another Luigi Libertucci in the town of Campobasso during the period 1866-1875. I also searched for his marriage and children through 1910 but found nothing... no marriage for Luigi, no children of Luigi, no Luigi. Hence my thought that he may have originated in a different comune.

As to Antonio Libertucci and Carmina Fede, I only have a bambino senza vita on 14 JAN 1857 [FHL INTL Film 1442252, DIVERSI 1857, N. d'ordine 3]. However, I haven't done any extensive research in the birth records of that time period.

My storm shutters were the aluminum folding type and they were still torn apart! I think they were damaged last year and this hurricane just finished them off.

This is very complicated, all of these names are linked to my great grandfather Antonio Petitto. (On the manifest it comes up Petitti) He was supposedly adopted by the Celino's his mother, Isabella Saravo, gave him up for adoption but was in contact with him. In one of her letters she said for him to contact her sis in law Florendina Saravo in Springfield, Massachusetts. His Biological father was a Brunetti. He was born in 1898 and came to America in 1906 on the Italia. When he first arrived in the States he lived near the "Italian Market" neighborhood (South Phila) He settled in Camden, NJ.
