Looking for birth certificates

Post by Rick Berni »

Hello all, I am hoping that someone can find the birth certificates for 2 men that I mentioned in an earlier post. One is Carlo Fidani born in either Civitanova or Porto San Giorgio Marche, in 1895. The other is Libero Mercanti born in Civitanova or Porto San Giorgio as well. We have no birth date for Libero but believe it was between 1895-1900.

The feeling is that the mothers of these 2 men are sisters. If this is true, then when have found the connection we are looking for. Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

I don't know. I am hoping that Carlo's mother and Libero Mercanti's mother are sisters. Carlo had 2 brothers that I know of, Rinaldo and Antonio but I don't know when they were born. I hope this helps. Thanks for checking into things for me darkerhorse. I appreciate it.

That is great darkerhorse, thank you. If Libero Mercanti's mother's surname is Cionfrini then We can confirm the relationship between Carlo and Libero. Thanks again for your help.

I couldn't find any records for Libero Mercanti.

Maybe someone with better (paid) access to genealogy websites can.

It doesn't look like many records are available online for Porto Civitanova. I don't know about Brazil.

Have not yet found Carlo and LIbero - but have been looking for a possible relationship between the Fidani and Mercanti families.

You mention above a possible mother's name for Carlo - Elisabetta Cionfrini.
Here is a birth act from Cittanova Marche in 1897. Birth of Rinaldo Fidani, son of Rinaldo Fidani (a seaman) and Elisa Cionfrini, residing in Porto. You may want to keep this as a possible connection...

EDIT TO ADD:

Here is the birth act of Carlo Fidani in 1894 September in Cittanova Marche
He is the son of Rinaldo Fidani, a seaman; and Elisa Cionfrini.

Great find Tessa. Rinaldo is also the name of Carlo's brother. So this makes sense, that a son is named after the father. The brother Rinaldo eventually came to Toronto as well. Thanks so much for finding this Tessa.

Happy to help!

I added Carlo's birth act above.

Continuing...
Here is the marriage of Rinaldo Fidani and Elisabetta Ciunfrini Tarquini in 1875 in Cittanova Marche.

Thanks for these Tessa. You know, there are no Fidanis and very few Mercantis in Civitanova now as far as the phone directory is concerned. There seem to be more of both families in Buenos Aires. How reliable are family tree inputs on Family Search Tessa.

Remember that the phone directory is for landlines only. So there may be more residents with the surnames than you think.

Here is the distribution of Mercanti in Marche more recently...
https://italia.indettaglio.it/eng/cogno ... arche.html

And distribution of Fidani (which was not very common in 1800s based on what I saw in the indices for births)
https://italia.indettaglio.it/eng/cogno ... arche.html

Family trees can be inaccurate. You must verify entries independently. However, they can sometimes provide leads.
