The liste di leva refer to all male Italian Citizen resident in Italy at that particular time and the ruoli matricolari actually prove that they have a military record.
You could ask for both starting with the liste di leva.
If present then go for the ruoli matricolari.

I sent off for my GGG Grandfather, GG Grandfather and GG Uncle's military records, and I got an initial response that they do have records. They are pulling and sending me the liste di leva! Thank you so much Farassino! A gem of a find.

Thank you Farassino. I was able to get in contact with the archives and they were able to locate my G.G Grandfathers Liste di leva and his ruoli matriculari. It contains some great info, so this was another gem to hunt down. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart! Truly thankful!!!
