Records were found at Ancestry, a paid database, but many public libraries have access for free.

Census records, like ship manifest, can contain errors for a variety of reasons, most notably, accents were hard to understand.......and for some reason.........good penmanship and spelling were not a prerequisite for either.....

Note on Santa's manifest the numbers to the side of her name, and the date of 1941.......looks like she may have applied for naturalization, and the "No C/A"........this indicates she did not have a certificate of arrival.
For further reading, here is a link to understanding manifest notations:

You can send for the naturalization record at the following link, ask for copies of everything in the file:

Here is a link to the town of interest listed on the ship manifest:
http://sicilia.indettaglio.it/eng/comun ... buono.html

Also includes the town hall address and email to send request for records.

Here is an interactive form letter to send for your request:
http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... civile.asp

However, the town of interest has been microfilmed by the Lds:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... ato+civile &columns=*,0,0

from this you can discover birth, marriage and death, tracing the family back as far as the dates allow.

Guide for using this resource:
http://italiangenealogy.tardio.com/Foru ... =2581.html

Italian Genealogy word list:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... Italia.ASP

and to find a library near you:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

I highly recommend this book by Trafford R. Cole:
"Italian Genealogical Records, How to use Italian Civil, Ecclesiastical, &
Other Records in Family History Research"

You will be an expert in no time!!! :D

According to my family, both Frank Corollo (Francesco Carollo) and Santina Mogavero were orphans in Italy. Does anyone know if there is a way to look into who their parents were and what happened, like orphanage records or something like that?

Thank you all so much!

Angeltwin,

Just my two cents but I would still write away for both Francesco and Santa's birth extracts and check the LDS records. Information on this were posted by Lee (wldspirit) in a previous post.

Here's a link to a very informative site on Castelbuono.
http://www.comune.castelbuono.pa.it/default.asp

It's in Italian so here's a link to an excellent online dictionary to help. It will not translate phrases only individual words, but I have found it more useful that the other online translation sites like Babelfish.

One other point. It appears that Santa's brother Giuseppe returned to Italy sometime between Francesco's arrival in 1910 and Santa's departure in 1913. It might be worth checking for Giuseppe Mogavero in the Ellis Island records to see what possible clues might be on his ship manifest(s).

Anyone know where/how to find out when Frank was naturalized? I'm trying to find out if it was before or after Antoinette Corollo was born.
