Re: New decree as of March 28th, no more citizenship by blood past 2 generations.
No you are okay, ICA responded to me since my last post. All is still on for October with my case.
If all goes as planned, this might be done in late 2025 or early 2026.
ICA stated it will be approx. 60 days after the court date, then AIRE registration, etc. Consulate appt for Passport.
I ...

Re: New decree as of March 28th, no more citizenship by blood past 2 generations.
This is a real mess! I guess I have two questions. Although my case is filed, Marco is my representative for the court hearing—will he continue to show up for that? I assume my documents are all safe and filed with the court as part of that process, so I shouldn’t worry about my documents being ...

CaputoBruno:
I'm still waiting for a response from ICA, but I've read on Reddit that they let go of at least 200 staff members after the decree. So, I may need to call them to get an update.
According to ICA's blog, those who have already filed and have a court date before the decree are okay ...

Re: New decree as of March 28th, no more citizenship by blood past 2 generations.
I had assumed that changes to Italian citizenship law were likely but I did not expect them to occur so swiftly!
I am sure that everyone who initiated the process will be protected. However, some attorneys are encouraging people to keep filing petitions in the anticipation that these changes will ...

Re: Meeting Distant Relatives in Italy
I think the reality is that most Italians regard Italian-Americans as Americans and they don't feel any more affinity towards you than they would towards an African-American.
As American myself, I find it very peculiar that so many Americans are so fascinated with their Italian heritage at a time ...

Re: A couple questions about a great grandpa for my moms Italian citizenship
I don't think Modestina Spina was born in the same town. I could not locate her birth record in the registry for Santa Croce.
However, I found this arrival card when she came to New York in 1900. It mentions the town Cercepiccola. Unfortunately, birth records are not available online for her ...

Re: A couple questions about a great grandpa for my moms Italian citizenship
Perhaps you could apply through your GGM. Based on her father's (your GGGF) WWI draft card, he was still an "alien" as late as 1918.
Your GGGF was born October 13, 1879 in the same town as Samuel Marion.

I'm not sure you will be able to apply via your GGF. I found his WWI draft card from 1917 and it reads that he was already naturalized at that point.

Check with NARA to see if your GGM was still a non-citizen in 1940.

Re: How to obtain birth and marriage from New York?
The New York County Clerk won't authenticate the birth certificate without the letter of exemplification. And without the County Clerk's authentication, you can't get an apostille from New York Department of State.
Anyone know where the NY County Clerk is located in order to take or send ...

If all else fails, try Giovanni Montanti. You can easily find his contact information online. I've hired him many times and I am always happy with his results.

Re: Death Certificate - Death date unknown
You will probably need someone like Giovanni Montanti to call the anagrafe by phone if you don't have an exact date. I sincerely doubt they will respond to a written request.

Re: US Naturalization
Thank you very much.
The daughter said that her father naturalized in 1965 and then gave her citizenship in 1974, when she was still minor. The mother didn't naturalize.
What do you think? Is it possible?
However she received US citizenship not on her request and says she remained also ...
